Blackjack is one of the most popular and recognisable games in the casino. You play against the dealer and the aim of the game is to make the hand closest to the value 21, based on the number values of the cards. Jack, Queens, and Kings are worth 10 points, Aces can be worth either 1 or 11 points (You choose), cards 2-10 are valued literally.
The game starts by placing a blind wager, then you are dealt two cards, while the dealer deals themselves two cards, with one face down. You will then have four options:
Stand: You can choose no further action, and play your hand as it is, for example, if you are dealt an ace and a king, you have the best hand (21) already, so you would always stand.
Hit: This is when you choose to be dealt another card, to attempt to bring your hand closer to 21.
Double: This is the same as hit, however, when you believe your hand will win you can double the bet.
Split: If you are dealt a pair, you can choose to split the hand into two hands, and receive another card for each. This will cost you an additional bet.
If your hand goes over 21, it is declared bust and you have lost. Once all other action has finished, the dealer will then turn over their hand. If they have got less than 17, they are obliged to keep hitting until they get at least 17. If they have 17 or more they must stand.
Some casinos have slight variations on blackjack, and there are additional rules such as ‘insurance’ and ‘surrender’. There is definitely an element of skill involved in blackjack, in particular, in knowing how to respond based on the visible card dealt to the dealer. There are many online casinos which deal online Blackjact, choose one, and play.
